‘Spectralis Hybridus’ uses appropriated imagery of early plant species illustrations dating from the 1600’s to 1800’s. Jones selectively removed illustrations from books to meticulously reform and reshape them into 3-dimensional objects, during the process a kind of “crosspollination has occurred, resulting in subtle stylising and “hybridisation”. The edition print returns the object to the 2-dimesional again, cleverly playing on and referencing its bibliographic origins.
‘Spectralis Hybridus’, Chris Jones. Edition of 100, 420x297mm, £80 unframed.
